Purchase adds to portfolio of .com, .net and .org
Digital trust services provider VeriSign has bought the .tv domain for $45m. The top-level domain is owned by the Pacific island nation of Tuvalu, but is promoted to media companies as an alternative to .com suffixes.
VeriSign already handles the directory for internet addresses that end with .com, .net and .org, and has been working to offer IT departments simplified domain and brand management online.
In December, it brought together a range of products to offer Digital Brand Management Services to companies that want use of their brands to be controlled online.
The services enable a company to bring together all of its online brands into a centrally managed digital portfolio which VeriSign manages on the company's behalf.
